An Overview of the Internet Publishing System
The Internet Publishing System was created
to minimize the time, technical knowldege, and system expense required
to operate an online publication. The system was designed to manage
editorial and non-editorial content, E-newsletter creation and deployment,
advertising, subscriber access, subscription renewals, searching,
content archiving, catalogs and shopping, payment processing, and
more.
About System Templates
The Internet Publishing
System is a template-based system. Templates are custom-designed
user interfaces that carry the code and /images that merge with your
editorial and non-editorial content to form each and every Web page
on the system. Site administration pages, content that is deployed
via e-mail, search returns, and print-friendly format pages also
require the use of templates.
The total number of templates required to deploy
a given site is determined by the scope and magnitude of the publication.
Smaller publications may require thirty or forty templates, while
a very large and complex publication may require more than one hundred
templates. Publishers are advised to base all their publication
templates around a common design concept or theme so site visitors
will not become confused as they navigate the site. Publishers are
also advised to operate with as few templates as possible to keep
setup and operating costs low and to minimize workload during periodic
site-wide upgrades.
